Helix by HL is a digital investment platform that offers personalized financial solutions. It provides tools and services to help users manage their investments and access insights, making it easier for them to make informed decisions based on their unique goals and needs.
Project Overview
Helix by HL is an AI-powered platform designed to simplify private market investing for wealth advisors and their clients. The primary goal of Helix is to empower advisors with intuitive tools that enhance their ability to navigate the complexities of private markets confidently. This case study outlines the design process focused on improving the user experience across four key use cases: adding a PPM, comparing funds within chat, a sliding drawer chat interface, and implementing question prompts on the homepage.
Research
User Interviews
We conducted interviews with wealth advisors and investors to understand their pain points in private market investing. Key insights included:
Difficulty accessing and interpreting PPMs.
The need for quick comparisons between various funds.
A preference for conversational interfaces over traditional dashboards.
The importance of quick access to FAQs and common queries.
Competitive Analysis
Analyzing competitor platforms highlighted a lack of personalized support and intuitive design. Many platforms were cluttered and did not offer straightforward navigation, particularly for less experienced users.
Use Cases
1. Adding a PPM to Answer Specific Questions
Objective: Enable seamless upload and reference of PPMs.
Design Solution:
Upload Interface: Added a drag-and-drop feature for easy PPM uploads within the chat.
Contextual AI Responses: AI parses uploaded documents to answer user-specific queries.
Outcome: Streamlined the user experience, reducing the time spent searching for information by providing tailored, immediate responses.
2. Comparing Funds Inside Chat
Objective: Allow users to compare multiple funds interactively.
Design Solution:
Comparison Tool: Integrated a fund comparison tool within the chat, enabling users to input criteria (e.g., risk, return, sector).
Dynamic Visuals: Utilized charts and graphs to visualize comparisons in real-time.
Interactive Responses: Users could ask the AI follow-up questions about specific funds, prompting deeper insights.
Outcome: This feature made the decision-making process more transparent and informed, empowering users to make better investment choices.
3. Sliding Drawer Chat Interface
Objective: Create a more engaging and accessible chat experience.
Design Solution:
Sliding Drawer Design: Developed a sliding drawer that could be opened and closed, allowing users to focus on their main tasks while keeping the chat accessible.
Persistent Context: The chat retained previous interactions, enabling users to scroll back through their conversation history easily.
User-Friendly Animation: Added smooth transitions to enhance user engagement and provide a modern feel.
Outcome: The sliding drawer design improved user engagement with the AI assistant, making it feel more integrated and less obtrusive.
4. Question Prompts on the Homepage
Objective: Provide users with quick access to common questions.
Design Solution:
Interactive Homepage: Designed a prominent section on the homepage with categorized question prompts
AI Suggestions: Integrated AI-driven suggestions based on user behavior to offer personalized prompts.
Quick Response Links: Each prompt linked to a comprehensive answer or relevant resources, reducing the time spent searching for information.
Outcome: This feature streamlined the user experience, allowing for quick access to valuable insights and reducing the number of queries directed to the AI assistant.
Prototyping and Testing
I created high-fidelity prototypes for each use case and conducted usability testing sessions with stakeholders.
